Are You Ready? Attention Please!

Lake Lure’s “Lure of the Dragons” race and festival combines fun festivities with team building and exciting competition! With drums pounding out stroke cadence, up to 34 corporate and community teams will paddle 250 meters down the Rocky Broad River in 30-foot long dragon boats dressed out in dragon heads, tails and scales; all competing for first place and all in the name of local charities!
Our races exclusively features the 10-paddler, 30-foot' "small boats". We race to raise funds for our charitable partners: Camp Lurecrest and The Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach Center, to promote the sport of Dragon Boat Racing in Western North Carolina, and finally to provide a free and fun family event!

Why We Paddle

Dragon Boating is more than a competitive sport.
Our organization has donated over $35,000 to local charities and medical research.

Camp Lurecrest

Camp Lurecrest

Camp Lurecrest is a non-denominational summer camp for children ages 8 to 17. For sixty years, Camp Lurecrest has combined the outdoor environment, memorable activities, strong relationships, and established an atmosphere in which campers encounter God’s love for them in Christ Jesus. Almost 1,000 children attend the camp in Lake Lure every summer. Provisions are made at a specific time during the summer through generous donations, to allow children without the financial means, to experience this loving environment at no charge.

Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast cancer survivors' dragon boating is an international movement inspired by sports medicine specialist Don McKenzie. He believed that this activity would benefit breast cancer survivors as it provided strenuous upper body activity in supportive environment. Survivors of breast cancer join together to paddle dragon boats to the benefit of their physical health and social wellbeing. Each year we honor these brave women with a memorial service celebrating the lives of those that have fought and keep fighting.
